Power outages often happen in the summer due to higher demands on the electricity network. They may be caused by fire or fault. SA Power Networks may disconnect the power to prevent damage or fire, or outages may happen because of planned maintenance or upgrades.
If the power is only out at your home, it may be an electrical fault. Check your trip switches or fuses to see if there is a fault with your homes wiring or an appliance. If it is set to off and won’t stay switched on, contact AUE to investigate further.
If the power is on with your neighbours, the circuit breaker or safety switch for your property may have tripped. If the switches in the meter or fuse box remains in the OFF position, there may be a fault with an appliance or an electrical circuit in your property, in this case contact AUE asap to dispatch an electrician to investigate and rectify.
Be prepared for future outages:
A generator can supply electricity to some of the circuits in your home in the event of a power outage. Generators can range from five watts to five kilowatts, some are suitable for portable power and others are more suited to being solutions for blackouts. You must take safety steps when installing, operating and maintaining a generator, if you wish to connect a generator or having issues, contact AUE and we will assess and advise.
